The focal point of knowledge left by the Seljuks: Karatay Madrasah

Antalya is a very ancient habitation. From ancient times to the present day, numerous civilizations and states have existed here and left their mark. Lycia, Lydia, Pamphylia, Great Maria, Rome, Byzantium, the Seljuks, the Ottoman Empire, and Turkish cultures - all are represented in Antalya. The Anatolian Seljuks have great significance in Turkish history, ruling Antalya for a long time and leaving their mark in the form of many buildings. One of them is the Karatay Madrasah... This madrasah in the Muratpa?a district in Antalya is a fine example of Seljuk architecture. Built in 1250 by the order of Jelaleddin Karatay, this building is also the only madrasah belonging to the period of the Anatolian Seljuks in Antalya.

Also known as "Karaday? Mosque," the Karatay Madrasah was built on a 15-hectare area. Hand-cut stone was used for the construction of the madrasah. Carved stone details, arched passageways, and the courtyard of the madrasah attract attention. Additionally, it stands out with its ceramic decor. Moreover, the tomb of Jelaleddin Karatay is located in this madrasah.

This madrasah, built for education and teaching, was also used by the Ottoman Empire after the Anatolian Seljuks until the 19th century.
