The unique treasure offered by nature: Saklikent Canyon
Saklikent Canyon is located in the Seydikemer district of Mugla. This natural wonder, which attracts both domestic and foreign tourists every year, is among the most beautiful canyons in Turkey. Nature lovers must visit and even explore this canyon. We say "explore" because this canyon is not just for sightseeing. You explore this canyon by taking a long walk through it. Walking among the rocks under the water is quite enjoyable and adventurous. Additionally, you can take magnificent photos and videos at the places you encounter during the journey.
What are the features of Saklikent Canyon?
This place is called Saklikent National Park, or as it is also known, Saklikent Canyon. The area surrounding Saklikent Canyon, declared a national park in 1996, covers an area of 12,390 hectares. One feature of this national park is that it includes both the Kas district in Antalya and the Seydikemer district in Mugla. Thus, two neighboring provinces are located here.
The canyon was formed by the Karaçay, a tributary of the Esen River, which forms the border between Antalya and Mugla. The formation was influenced by the easily erodible limestone terrain and fault lines.
This canyon, covering an area of 1,643 hectares, has a length of 18 kilometers and a height of 200 meters. The narrowest point of the canyon, approximately 2 meters, makes it quite deep and steep. It ranks first in length in Turkey and third in Europe.
How to get to Saklikent Canyon?
Saklikent Canyon is located 63 kilometers from Kas and approximately 50 kilometers from the center of Fethiye.
Those coming from Antalya can take minibusses departing from Kas Bus Terminal or join safari tours. Those coming from Mugla can take minibusses departing from Fethiye or reach the canyon by safari tours. Car owners can also come here with their vehicles. However, if you don't have a car, you can also rent a chauffeured vehicle for uninterrupted, fast, comfortable, and luxurious transportation. You can reach this beautiful canyon by renting a chauffeured car from both Antalya Airport and Dalaman Airport.
Finally, we remind you that it is better to come here in spring and summer when the weather is milder and the water in the canyon is warmer.
