Manavgat's mysterious caves beckon exploration

Manavgat, a district in Antalya, Turkey, is rich in places to visit and explore. Each year, it attracts a multitude of both local and foreign tourists, thanks in part to its Mahrumcali and Tilkiler caves. Though these caves may not be widely known among tourists, their natural beauty awaits discovery. Let's take a closer look at them: where they are located, how to get there, and what makes them special. You'll find all the answers to these questions in our article.

Mahrumcali Cave

This cave is located near the village of Gebece in Manavgat. It lies to the east of the village, beneath the Mahrumcali neighborhood. Mahrumcali is a semi-active cave with a length of about 157 meters, and its deepest point is approximately 36 meters below ground. At the entrance to the Mahrumcali neighborhood, waterfalls trickle between the rocks, offering a picturesque sight. Along with this waterfall, which resembles a postcard scene, the beauty of the numerous stalactites, stalagmites, and columns found inside the cave is also worth seeing. At the end of the cave, in its deepest part, there is also a lake. During rainy weather, water from the cave fills this lake. The temperature inside the cave during the summer months ranges from 16 to 18 degrees Celsius. While not all parts of the cave are open to visitors, you can explore it free of charge. The surrounding area, easily accessible by any means of transportation, also boasts many beautiful camping and picnic spots. After visiting the cave, you can choose to have a picnic or camp here.

Tilkiler Cave

Another natural wonder in Manavgat is the Tilkiler Cave, located near Manavgat, about 4 kilometers northwest of the Oymapinar Dam. This cave, approximately 7 meters long, ranks as Turkey's third-longest cave. Discovered during drilling surveys for the Oymapinar Dam in 1976, the cave remains active. Part of the cave is made of limestone, while another part consists of conglomerate. Inside the cave, there are also sandy areas. In 2003, during a re-examination, it was found that the part of the cave where researchers discovered four sand castles in 1976 still stands strong, and this space was named the Castles Hall. When you visit this cave, you can observe this area and other beauties of the cave. You can reach the cave by your own vehicle or by minibusses from Sevinckoy.

Additionally, when you visit Manavgat, you have the opportunity to see Manavgat Waterfall, the ancient city of Side, Oymapinar Lake, Koprulu Canyon National Park, Daribuku Canyon, and many other tourist attractions. To visit all these places and caves, many people prefer to rent a chauffeur-driven car for more comfortable, faster, and safer transportation. Furthermore, with luxurious services inside the car, the journey becomes even more enjoyable.
