The unique harmony of history and nature in Fethiye: Gemile

In the district of Faralya, also known as Uzunyurt, in the Mugla province's Fethiye, there are three important tourist spots: Gemile Island, Gemile Cove, and Gemile Beach. In addition to these natural beauties, protected as a first-degree natural site, you must also visit Gemile Valley when you find yourself in Fethiye.

Gemile Cove and Gemile Beach offer many beauties to spend a peaceful day among olive and pine trees. As a sheltered destination for excursion boats, Gemile Cove allows you to enjoy sea, sand, and sun all day long. As you head towards the beach, you'll see Gemile Valley, fed by streams and waterfalls. Here, you can picnic amidst the lush greenery, have a barbecue, and even camp if you wish to stay overnight. This place also has a trekking trail where you can go for a walk in nature.

Discover the traces of the past on Gemile Island

Gemile Island, located opposite the cove and beach, attracts attention both for its natural beauty and its history. Formerly known as Aya Nikola, this island with its church and cistern ruins dates back to the early Christian and Byzantine periods (between the 5th and 11th centuries). The frescoes of the Byzantine-era church ruins still stand today. There is also a 500-meter tunnel connecting two churches here. However, part of the tunnel has collapsed, and other ruins have been submerged in water due to earthquakes in 240-241 AD. When you visit Gemile Island, you can see these and other submerged ruins two meters deep in the sea. Additionally, from the island's peaks, you can have a chance to see the magnificent beauty of Butterfly Valley, Gocek Bay, and Oludeniz and enjoy these breathtaking views or capture them in photographs.

Gemile Cove is located 6 kilometers from Kayakoy. Since it is very close, when you come here, you can even walk to Kayakoy. Additionally, you can also visit Soguksu, Kisik Cove, Kisik Cave, Afkule, and Beshtashlar.

How to get to Gemile?

You can reach Gemile Cove by road or sea. If you're traveling by car, you should use the road on the west side of Kayakoy in Fethiye. After taking this road towards Kinali, you will reach Gemile. The nearest airport to Gemile, located 44 kilometers south of Fethiye, is Dalaman Airport... Many prefer to rent a chauffeured car to get here. This way, they can reach Gemile safely and quickly under the guidance of experienced drivers who know the area well. Moreover, they can enjoy a pleasant and comfortable journey with luxurious amenities in the car. If your journey takes you to Fethiye and you want to see Gemile, you can also rent a chauffeured car.
