Kovada Lake National Park, Enchanting with its Scenery

Kovada Lake, located north of the Mediterranean Gulf in the Lake District, is situated in the province of Isparta. This freshwater lake is positioned on a fault line extending from north to south. Originally part of Lake Egirdir, it separated over time to become an independent lake. Formed by tectonic and karstic dissolution processes, Kovada Lake is 6 kilometers long and approximately 3 kilometers wide. The lake, with an elevation of 908 meters above sea level, covers an area of 7.9 square kilometers, and its deepest point reaches 6 meters. Kovada Lake, being quite shallow, has a mottled appearance due to the sediments that give it its color, making its scenery breathtaking.

In 1970, the lake became a national park, and in 1992, it was designated a first-degree natural protected area. The vegetation around Kovada Lake is rich, and its wildlife is quite diverse. Around the lake, there are oaks, junipers, red pines, black pines, and many other trees and shrubs. The lake is home to fish species like perch, tench, silver carp, carp, and freshwater crayfish, as well as wildlife such as foxes, squirrels, badgers, martens, wild boars, and rabbits. Additionally, the lake hosts birds like geese, partridges, wild ducks, and woodcocks.

When you visit this lake, you can camp, climb, bird-watch, take nature photographs, hike, or simply enjoy its magnificent scenery. The national park also has facilities such as buffets and restaurants where you can take a break and have something to eat and drink. Alternatively, you can use the picnic tables within the park to enjoy a picnic with food and drinks you bring along.

There are also many historical and archaeological sites within Kovada Lake National Park. These include Yazili Canyon-King’s Road, Greco-Roman Pisidia, Sagalassos, Hacilar Mound, Hizir Bey Mosque, and Dundar Bey Medrese. We recommend visiting these historical places during your tour of Kovada Lake National Park.
