Impressive with its architecture
It is evident that the ancient city, situated on a plain near the Köprüçay River, is noteworthy due to its aqueducts. They were built to transport water from the river and the Taurus Mountains to meet the city's water needs. In addition to the aqueducts that provided water to the city in ancient times, the open-air theater built by the Romans in the 2nd century AD also attracts attention.
The theater, built between two hills by Zenon, the son of Theodoros, from 161 to 180 AD, has reached us in very good condition. The theater, dedicated to local gods and the imperial family, impresses with its architecture. It bears important traces of Roman architecture and construction.
The ancient theater, which accommodates 20,000 people with seats 45 cm wide, has excellent acoustics. Today it is also known for its concerts and events.

Mythological history of Aspendos
Aspendos also has a mythological history. The story goes like this: the king of Aspendos wants to marry off his daughter and announces it to the people. However, the announcement states that the daughter will marry whoever does the most useful thing for the city. After this, two young architects present their useful deeds to the king. The first was the construction of water channels, the second was the Aspendos Theater with excellent acoustics. At first, the king wanted to give his daughter to the first architect who built the water channels. However, after his daughter insisted and the king fell in love with the theater's acoustics, he decided to give his daughter to the second architect, Zenon.
