Damlatash Cave is located in the district of Alanya in the city of Antalya. This cave, situated by the sea, was accidentally discovered in 1948. Stone was needed for the construction of a port dock, so a quarry was opened. As a result of this quarry's opening, a stunning cave was discovered.
Damlatash is one of the first caves in Turkey opened for tourist visits. Since its opening in 1948, it has welcomed many people. Every year, the cave, which is a must-visit destination for both local and foreign tourists, attracts attention due to its geographical beauty and the benefits it brings in treating asthma. Patients coming to the cave for asthma treatment spend 4 hours a day here for 21 days. The air and gas in the cave bring them healing.
How was Damlatash Cave formed?
Studies have shown that the formation of the cave began 15 thousand years ago. Sea water eroded the rocks, resulting in the formation of this cave. The entrance to the cave is 50 meters wide and 15 meters high. After passing through this passage, you come across cylindrical voids and descend to the bottom of the cave through this void.
The temperature in the cave remains constant throughout the year at 22 degrees Celsius. The humidity is around 95%, and the pressure is 760 mm of mercury. Stalactites in the cave formed due to rainwater dripping from the cave ceiling. Stalagmites in the cave formed due to water flowing on the ground and subsequent freezing. The cave was cleaned with saline water and acquired its current form.
